Being young leaders through practicing
good character and good citizenship.
Kiwanis has many programs with which to involve children with a positive experience. One of those is the Terrific Kids program. The St. Marys Kiwanis club has that program in all the elementary schools except one in Camden County.
The purpose of the program is to motivate, encourage and recognize. Each student, along with their teacher, sets a realistic goal for improvement. Something as simple as being on time, helping others, being polite. The goals are not geared to academics however that too can show improvement. These students sometimes never achieve great academic status and this program offers a way for them to be recognized.
Each school handles the program differently but the goal is the same, to improve self esteem and recognize every student for their worth. We hope each child will feel special, especially on their day of recognition when they receive their certificate of improvement in front of their peers, parents and school personnel. Also, they receive a Kiwanis pencil and bumper sticker which declares, "I am a Terrific Kid".
